Dreaming of launching your own business? But feel like it’s too outlandish for you to make the leap? Tori Overmyer felt that same fear, but pushed through and created a thriving online biz that she was able to scale quickly. We chatted with Tori about her business journey: how Instagram was pivotal to her success, how she stays motivated, and when she knew it was time to invest back into her biz.
1. How did you get started in your industry? What led to your passion for your career?
I used to be a hairstylist and I was able to grow a full clientele using Instagram marketing. From there, I started helping others in the beauty industry do the same. And that’s when I realized how much I loved the coaching industry! Since then, I’ve pivoted into helping other women start and grow online coaching businesses of their own. I’m passionate about it because of the lifestyle and freedom that having an online business provides and I feel so lucky to get to help people build a business that they love!
2. What were some of the bigger challenges you experienced in getting started?
I definitely faced a lot of mental roadblocks in the beginning. It was so hard for me to believe that I would be able to grow my coaching business to a place where I could quit my other job and have this fully support me. Starting a business can feel really isolating because not a lot of people in my personal life are entrepreneurs. So it was really hard to fully trust and believe in myself and my goals. But I’m so glad that I was able to push through and find that trust in myself regardless of how crazy people around me may have thought I was.
3. How has your life changed now that you’re pursuing your passion and living your dream?
Not to be dramatic but my life has completely changed! Since starting my business and growing it to multiple six figures I have been able to live a life that I had only dreamt of before. I get to work from home with my husband and dog every day, create my own schedule, and feel truly fulfilled by the work that I’m doing. Of course there are a lot of challenges that come with owning a business but there’s nothing like building something on your own and watching it grow into a success.
4. What’s your favorite part about owning your own business/your career?
My favorite part about owning my business is that the possibilities are endless. No one can tell me what my salary is or what opportunities are or aren’t available for me. Knowing that I can create as much success as I want keeps me inspired and motivated every day.
5. What does supporting women-owned businesses look like to you?
One of my favorite things about the online business space is how easy it is to connect with other amazing business owners. I love not only being able to work with and hire women for my own business, but I love being able to refer clients to other women owned businesses as well. Having a close network of female entrepreneurs is so beneficial!
6. How has your brand/packaging/website changed or improved your business?
For the first few years I had my business I was using a website that I had created myself. Once I hit a certain level of clientele, I really wanted my branding and website to reflect the service that I provide. Since my rebrand, I feel so much more confident sending people to my website and creating content using my branding because I know that it truly showcases what I’ve built!
